OUR PROJECTS

The KHB uses an asset-mapping strengths and community-informed hybrid model, where our organization draws on the experiences of our supporting members and insights shared by community members to develop projects. The board relies on the strengths of individual board directors, partner organizations, and the larger KHB supporting members, which increases the our ability to quickly and effectively implement projects.

KHB COVID-19 RESPONSE HUB

APRIL 2019 - ONGOING
In the absence of accessible educational materials on COVID-19, incident reporting of anti-Asian racisms, and a centralized process to coalesce and distribute information in the Khmer language, we have partnered with King County Office of Equity & Social Justice to develop and implement a COVID-19 information hub. The KHB seeks to fill other gaps including the development of anti-hate and anti-bias messaging for businesses in the region and support of local Khmer artists.

COVID-19 DIRECT SERVICES

MARCH 2019 - ONGOING
In collaboration with the Khmer Community of Seattle & King County and through support from the Seattle Center Foundation, our two organizations are providing direct services to the community in the form of financial support for rent, groceries, and utilities along with assistance in navigating support programs. We reached over 60 families in south Seattle neighborhoods. The needs assessments are completed through a phone triage process and delivery of support is done through health navigators in a no-contact manner.

COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT (PHPDA)

SUMMER 2019 - ONGOING
The Khmer Health Board started a collaboration with the Community Health Board Coalition (CHBC) to participate in a grant project funded by the Health Equity Fund, previously known as the Pacific Hospital Preservation & Development Fund. The two phase project is an effort to understand and/or evaluate community priorities and develop an action plan to address needs of the community.

MENTAL ILLNESS & DRUG DEPENDENCY

2019 - ONGOING
The KHB is working on obtaining support from King County’s Mental Illness & Drug Dependency (MIDD) behavioral health tax program, which is run by the Department of Community and Human Services. MIDD is aimed at funding services and programs for people living with or at risk for mental health. We have proposed a community-driven strategy to provide culturally appropriate and trauma informed services to address the community unmet behavioral health needs. The proposal will be partially informed by the results from the mental health assessment that the KHB conducted in 2019.
