OUR CURRENT AND PRIOR WORK
-
In late 2022, families and homes in the South Park neighborhood experienced devastating flooding due to a King Tide from the Duwamish River, a designate Super Fund Site surrounded by heavily polluting industries. Many Khmer families lost their homes and experienced an unacceptable delayed response from governmental entities as they did to recognize nor knew about families who lived in the neighborhood. Grassroots organizations led the way in voicing and advocating for residents in South Park.
Recognizing the real and inequitable impacts of climate change on our communities, KHB is pursuing work on bringing increased awareness and concrete supplies to help Khmer elders and youth mitigate the impact of heat and inequitable distribution of shade and green spaces. More information to come.
-
We developed a COVID-19 resource hub that provided accurate and up to date information about COVID-19 and anti-bias/hate for the Khmer community in Khmer organized community events for COVID-19 testing and immunizations, and PPE supplies as well as direct fiscal support for families impacted most.
-
Our past work have have also included efforts related to Hepatitis B education, an annual health fair for the community, and developing a white paper on the current state of mental health our community through small focus groups with community leaders and elders.
